The word “AMIGOS” means “friends” in Portuguese. AMIGOS project revolves around the investigation of group dynamics aimed at developing groups of robots that can establish engaging interactions with groups of humans.
AMIGOS project addresses the issue of social adaptation for robots in group settings. While the majority of the research performed within human-robot interaction is limited to studies of one-user and one-robot, this project proposes to study groups-of-users interacting with groups-of-robots. To endow a robot with the ability to cope with changes in the number of users around it, we propose the use of interactive machine learning techniques that allow the robot to quickly adjust its behavior, depending on both the situational context (i.e., the number of users in the environment) and the preferences of a particular user, and generate adaptive social responses.
